Day 3 - Paranorman
We are sticking with the stop-motion classics for this part of the list and Paranorman is not only a bonafide genre classic but it is also a love letter to horror movies... for kids! This is another one of those perfect gateway horror for kids where the scares are fun but they're genuinely scary if you're under the age of 13. The story centers on a young boy who can talk to ghosts and accepts the task of ending an ancient curse. OK, sounds like standard supernatural horror stuff, except what is cool is that this is PG animated movie for kids! Brought to life by Laika and directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler, Paranorman is a film that not only references horror cinema, but was made by people who love the genre with all their heart. There are references to Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and even horror classics like Suspiria, Friday the 13th, and Halloween! If you've never seen Paranorman, do yourself a favor and watch this classic. While the kids get spooked by the amazing animation, the adults will get a kick out of all the horror references that this gem has.
