31 Days of Horror Movies - Day 1

It's that magical time of the year again! It is October and this year we are going all out by recommending to you a horror movie a day for the entirety of this month.

Every day we will post a recommendation for a horror movie that you can watch. However, the gimmick for this endeavor is that we will start by recommending family friendly horror films at first and as the month progresses, then the films will get scarier and scarier. So fasten your seatbelts, grab your pumpkin spice latte and your raisinets, because these are 31 horror movie recommendations for you!

Day 1 - Halloweentown

A Disney Channel Original Movie favorite that has grown and grown in reputation with each passing year. Halloweentown is not only a delightful family friendly adventure for all ages, that actually takes place during Halloween, but it also serves as a great gateway horror for children with all sorts of monsters, puppets, creatures, and spooky vibes to make them fall in love with the fan favorite season. It's kind of like "what if Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls was just a Halloween town?" From the kooky monster designs, to the wonderful pumpkin at the center of the town and, of course, Debbie Reynolds as everyone's favorite witch, the movie has just become a perennial favorite for the Halloween season and for good reason. Plus, we even get Benny!

*All of the recommendations that we make can be found at the El Paso Public Library Catalog

The amount of excitement at that sentence cannot be overstated, as this day on this month feels perfect, it just feels right! So without any further ado, there's only one movie we can choose for today and it is... Day 13 - The Eras Tour ............. Totally kidding. Day 13 - Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives We have all seen the original Sean S. Cunningham film and its great sequences, including its all timer ending, but for today I wanted to spotlight an entry that maybe doesn't get as discussed as Parts 1 - 4 and that is Part VI . Written and directed by Tom McLoughlin, Friday the 13th Part VI pulls a 180 and pushes the franchise completely into the realm of the supernatural complete with an imposing and frightening undead Jason. While the Friday franchise has been one to introduce comedic relief characters and funny moments, Part VI is the one th...
